Storms Capable of Creating Tornadoes Moving Across State
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) — A tornado watch is in effect for much of central Indiana until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued the watch for the following counties:
- Boone
- Brown
- Caroll
- Clinton
- Hamilton
- Hendricks
- Howard
- Johnson
- Marion
- Montgomery
- Morgan
- Tipton
Storms are firing and pushing across Indiana, and each one has the potential to rotate and create a tornado. Residents in the watch area should be prepared for a few tornadoes to develop.
The NWS advises residents to have a plan in place in case of a tornado warning. This includes knowing where to go for shelter and having a way to receive weather updates. Residents should also avoid driving through flooded areas.
The tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m., but it could be extended if the threat of tornadoes continues. The NWS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
In addition to the tornado watch, a severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect for much of central Indiana until 11 p.m. Residents in the watch area should be prepared for damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain.
