Yellowstone Seismic Activity

**Earthquakes Swarm Yellowstone Region** The Yellowstone region is experiencing a swarm of earthquakes, with the largest measuring magnitude 15 on March 14th. The swarm is common in the area, which is one of the most seismically active in the United States. The Yellowstone Volcano Observatory (YVO), a consortium of state and federal agencies, monitors the volcanic and hydrothermal activity in the region. According to the YVO, earthquake sequences like these are common and account for roughly 50% of the total seismic activity in the area. The region experiences an average of 1500 to 2500 earthquakes per year, most of them too small to be felt. However, larger earthquakes, such as the magnitude 15 event on March 14th, can cause shaking and damage. The YVO continues to monitor the seismic activity in the region and will provide updates as needed. Residents are advised to be prepared for earthquakes and to follow safety precautions.
