**Massive 6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pakistan and Afghanistan** **March 21, 2023** A devastating 6.5 magnitude earthquake has struck much of Pakistan and Afghanistan, causing panic and widespread damage. The quake sent people rushing out of their homes and has left at least 13 dead and over 90 injured. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 9:12 PM local time in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan. The epicenter was located 44 kilometers northwest of the city of Taunsa. The earthquake was followed by a series of aftershocks, including one of magnitude 5.2. Tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi, India. Reports from the affected areas indicate that buildings have collapsed, roads are cracked, and power lines are down. Rescue workers are searching for survivors and providing medical assistance to the injured. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his condolences to the victims and ordered swift action to provide relief and support to those affected. The government has dispatched emergency teams to the disaster zone. Afghanistan has also experienced damage from the earthquake, particularly in the eastern province of Nangarhar. At least four people have been killed and several others injured in the country. The earthquake comes as Pakistan is still reeling from a series of deadly monsoon floods that killed over 1,700 people last year. The country is also facing an economic crisis and political instability. Authorities are urging people to remain calm and follow safety protocols.
